There is Hope
There is Hope
Isaiah 53:3-8 KJV “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. Surely He has borne our grief and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed.”
53:5 NLT “But He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.”
Jesus NEVER intended to endure and willingly go through all that He did, just so we could walk around life BROKEN.
Whether broken by other people, situations and circumstances, or even at times broken by our own doing and self-sabotage.
By His blood and by His sacrifice, we can KNOW that there has already been a SURE WAY made for us to be healed and saved from wounds that we carry sometimes.
In order for those wounds to heal, we have to look to Jesus Who is the Author and the Finisher of our faith. He has given us overcoming victory through His blood, and we are to walk redeemed and healed!
We are saved and have the option to be sanctified which is a process of being set apart and FREE; (to make us productive through holiness).
You see, until we ARE BROKEN, we can’t be fully used by God using His strength and not our own.
Psalms 51:17 KJV “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.”
A “broken spirit” means letting go of our human pride and self-sufficiency. A “contrite heart” is one that’s deeply affected by our own need for more of God with honesty and being vulnerable.
◦ We may have been broken by people - God is not people! And God wants to heal the things that try to take root and breed resentment and bitterness in our soul.
◦ We may have been broken by situation and circumstances - But we have to be confident that God said He will be with us in the fire and the storms that this life brings, and even the MEMORY of those things.
◦ We have been broken by our own doing - This is an OPPORTUNITY to let go of things holding us back, and embracing HIS WAY in EVERY way.
Some of us may feel like God somehow let us down, or we have a disappointment with the way and what God has allowed in our lives, making a form of resentment towards God
I’ve seen people walk away from the call of God on their life and walk away from Church because of hurts or wounds. (Portion of blame could be Church people are not perfect… but you and I have to own the fact that we too, could have a percentage of blame in that outcome)
See, when we are forgiven of our sins and we are healed from what the enemy has tried to damage our life with, we will not be the same!
If we could do it OURSELVES, we wouldn’t need a Savior!
We need to ask ourselves, if the life we live would even be possible if He was never crucified?
Do we DEPEND on Him and have repented of our sins?
Or do we just believe God exists, live life as a good person and love everyone?
There is a hope that we all have, and that is a hope for eternity, the hope of salvation, the hope of being able to call on the Name of Jesus at any point in our lifetime…BUT TRANSFORMATION is needed in order for that belief to bring the power of healing to our lives.
There are a lot of people who are religious but not truly saved… believing in God but not repentant. That’s not for ME to judge anyone’s salvation, but we are to judge FRUIT.
It is ONLY through Jesus, not self effort, that we can enter into Heaven!
My point is: Sometimes people need to be broken to be saved.
2 Corinthians 4:7 NLT “We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.”
There’s always that reminder, there’s always that temptation to identify with that HURT, that PAIN, that SIN, that EMOTION, that MEMORY. We always try to gravitate toward “what’s familiar”.
But the hope is because of that scar, because of the healing, and because of the deliverance through Jesus, we remember what it was like without His help, and He gives us the strength to not do those same things or fall into those same traps again.
It’s at that point that our wounds change and we go through a healing process which develops a scar.
Many of us have open wounds that we need to allow the development to become a scar.
From a witness standpoint, it is difficult, almost impossible to help someone going through the same things that we have if we have not allowed the wounds to heal.
In other words, if we are bleeding and we come in contact with anyone or anything else, we will bleed on them, too.
Some people may not know how to express love and compassion, and don’t understand the importance of it in our relationship to Jesus, much less anybody else.
Maybe we have never experienced that shown to us. Maybe things from our childhood or from a spouse or a loved one… That could be an open wound that we don’t even know is there, therefore we don’t even know how to begin a healing process for that.
It is kind of like the person who has lived a lifetime eating whatever they want, never exercising or never doing anything that promotes their physical health, but they get warning signs from the doctors stating they need to make a change in their diet or something catastrophic could happen.
The problem is, they may feel that everything is okay. They may seem to even appear to be healthy, but inside their veins and their arteries there has been a buildup of cholesterol and fats, etc. that will catch up to them someday if left not dealt with.
The hope is the great physician has given us strategies to avoid this in our spiritual walk much like a physical doctor can give us strategies and help us reverse some of the behaviors and wounds that have kept us from thriving in our spiritual life.
If we allow the wounds to become a scar, it is now something that we have overcome and a testimony just like the testimony of Jesus. We don’t have to walk around like some kind of “victim” mentality.
Even though the wounds that were inflicted on Jesus was strictly for OUR SAKE, nothing He brought on Himself through no wrong doing or human missteps.
But it is through His scars that we have hope. The scars are the proof of Jesus resurrection. The scars are the witness that He overcame and provides a pathway for us to enter into heaven by also overcoming.
Romans 8:1-2 KJV “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,” (most people stop there…)
“who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” (spiritually, mentally, emotionally, etc.)
An open wound will keep us in agony and will hinder us and stop us from performing at our full potential. It’s only when our wounds become scars that we gain strength.
When scar tissue is formed, it forms back stronger than the original brokenness and is always a reminder of what happened and where it happened, which CAN be useful and good.
I have plenty of scars on my body from times of recklessness growing up and even recently as an adult. Each one of those scars has a story, they are a reminder to me of what not to do again and to be watchful.
The hope is when we allow God to heal our wounds, we don’t just get stuck in a place that we cannot be affected again, but when we are healed that those wounds would provide us an opportunity to be a witness, and those scars give us the hope that through the blood of Jesus, we overcome.
Some of us may have open wounds because of unresolved sin in our lives. They may not be murderous or adulterous sins, but they may be wounds of hurt, bitterness, anger, anxiety, worry, betrayal or unforgiveness.
Mostly, the biggest self inflicted wounds we have are a result of pride, and we have a problem with admitting we have any need to depend on God.
The Bible tells us to submit to God and resist the devil, and he will flee from us.
The Bible does not say that we would never be tempted, but when we are tempted, He will provide a way of escape.
We cannot stop temptation from entering into our lives or into our thought process, but we can, however stop it from taking root and letting it develop into a wound. (Bringing every thought into captivity 2 Corinthians 10:5)
It is when we are healed, forgiven, and delivered from our sins that we develop a testimony which is much like a scar. But when we let that sin which so easily besets us keep dwelling in our thoughts or actions, that is a wound to our spiritual life that sometimes seems impossible to heal in our own self effort.
The book of Revelation tells us that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of our testimony, and by His blood. We are healed by His sacrifice and we are saved, and by His righteousness, we are forgiven, WHOLE and FREE.
When I broke my ankle, it seemed like a never-ending process to heal, but through direction from the doctors and a lot of physical therapy, I now am able to perform every day tasks.
I’m not the same that I was before I broke my ankle. There are still a few limitations that I have, but for the most part, I can use my leg and function normally.
See when we are forgiven of our sins and we are healed from what the enemy has tried to damage our life with, we have to realize we are not to walk the same. We are a new creature in Christ and that we identify with THAT.
There’s always that reminder, there’s always that temptation, But the hope is because of that scar, because of the healing, and because of the deliverance through Jesus, we remember what it was like, and He gives us the strength to not do those same things again or fall into that hole again spiritually, mentally, or in any way walk the same.
Galatians 2:20 NLT “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
We not only need to identify with the fact of our brokenness as a sign of defeat, but let the broken parts of our life to allow God to heal, comfort and transform and mold our life into a better place.
It’s not only by His blood, but He sent His Holy Spirit to give us power to walk in the divine healing He intended for us.
He’s here to LIFT US UP from the pit we get into. He wants us to dwell in a higher place with Him.
Isaiah 57:15 NLT “The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One says this: ‘I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble.
I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.”
We have to keep our heart tender towards God, and not let it get hardened to where God can’t have influence on our heart.
We may have experienced pain, but what we do with that brokenness is ultimately decided by US and how we choose to stay tender and humble before God to be all that He wants for our lives. Let’s not let His sacrifice, His bruising, be for nothing. He wants us to be whole and healed.
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed.”
