The Gift Within You
Romans 12:1-21 NLT
I think many times, going through our lives in the day to day, we aren’t really thinking about how God wants to use the GIFTS WITHIN US.
We need to stir up the gift that is in each and every one of us.
When we accept Jesus as our personal Savior, we are empowered with the gift of the Holy Spirit upon us.
The Holy Spirit was not available to all of us until Jesus ascended to Heaven. That availability is there for us to tap into and receive in the fullness and overflowing if we would seek for it.
It’s only by Jesus that we are able to have access to the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit working in our lives, gives us the ability to accomplish things in a supernatural capacity.
The Holy Spirit:
A. Convicts us - Giving a “check in our spirit” and pricks our heart with convictions and holy standards
B. Comforts us - With a comfort of peace that is supernatural and isn’t just “positive thinking” vibes
C. Guides us - Into all Truth, giving us insight beyond what our natural abilities can.
D. Empowers us - For what?! To be a witness! Acts 1:8… The Last thing Jesus told them before he Ascended
Not only does the Spirit give abilities, but it also empowers us with the strength, the knowledge and encouragement, as well as the wisdom to operate within those gifts He has already placed within us.
With my guitar pedals or the Keyboard… They have greater capabilities than even we have tapped into.
But unless we INVEST INTEREST in the fullness of what they were created for, I’ll never see the full potential.
It can BE IN THERE, but never see what its capability can actually do.
Exodus 31:1-3 KJV “And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, See, I have called by name Bezaleel of the tribe of Judah: and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.”
*And this is that SAME SPIRIT that raised Christ from the dead and is now given to you and I in the form of the Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost).
But it’s now given in even GREATER MEASURE to dwell IN US after He went to the Father, if we will seek for it and tap into it!
2 Timothy 1:6 KJV
“Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou STIR UP THE GIFT OF GOD, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.”
This is why we should understand the importance of IMPARTATION. We should welcome the impartation of godly wisdom, the anointing, and good gifts into our lives by God’s ministers.
Impartation goes both ways and if you’re in the company of UNGODLY influence, you can have other things imparted!
There was a need for Paul to tell Timothy to STIR UP the gifts of the Spirit, because everything in this carnal life, and life’s challenges and distractions, much less the demons of hell will do whatever it can to keep you from having the Spirit stirred and flowing!
In John 7:38 it says, “Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” Do we have stagnant water or is God’s gifts flowing from us like a river?
2 Timothy 1:5, 7 MSG
“God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.”
God wants us to DESIRE the supernatural gifts of the Spirit; and at the same time, He trusts that we also desire to use those gifts in a sensible way that honors Him.
1 Peter 4:10-11 NLT
“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God Himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.”
When we are constantly aware of ourselves and our surroundings and the situations that we are in (being self-absorbed in our own personal life), it prevents us from seeing the Holy Spirit, trying to work in our lives and prevents us from being able to acknowledge that gift.
We are created in God‘s image as the Bible says, and most of us spend a lifetime trying to identify with something or trying to compare ourselves to something or someone.
We see all kinds of people trying to identify as this or as that… There are men trying to identify as women and women trying to identify as men even people trying to identify as an animal or a cat, a dog!
In reality, it’s all a deception from the enemy that he is trying to confuse us of what our true identity. All the way back to Adam after the first sin, he was ashamed of his identity and tried to cover it up and hide from his original image given from God.
What part of the Spirit are we identifying with? Are you identifying that you’re a Man or Woman of God? That you are bought with a price and you are His child, brought into His Kingdom and given His gifts that are priceless?!
The Bible explicitly tells us that we are to crucify our flesh, and that we have to identify with becoming a new creation in Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
We are to lay down our old life and even the current things that we seek after, and we have to crucify our flesh nature in order to become more Christ like.
This is how we allow the Holy Spirit to have priority and preeminence in our life.
You cannot have the gift of the Holy Spirit working through you unless you have the fruit of the Holy Spirit working in you.
Fruit in its natural sense is meant to be eaten. It is meant to feed and nourish our bodies. The fruit of the Spirit is meant for us to feed those that are around us, which will cause them to grow and multiply.
These gifts of the Spirit coincide with some of the natural abilities you already have.
1 Corinthians 12 (Spiritual Gifts)
Our gifts are for service not for show. They are given to honor God, bring others into His Kingdom, and serve others in the body of Christ.
There is a difference between Gifts of the Spirit and the Fruits of the Spirit, but you can’t have the gift without the fruit.
Galatians 5:22-23 NLT
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
Jesus said in Luke 4:18-19
A quote from Isaiah 61
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”
And it wasn’t only meant for Jesus, because He gave ALL OF US the Great Commission and said, “Greater works than these you will do because I go to the Father.” John 14:12
Are we recognizing, seeking for and tapping into all that’s been given to us through the Holy Spirit?
